About This Course
This course provides fundamental knowledge in gemology that facilitate sales and communication in gems and jewelry retails
- An introduction to gemstones, jadeites, diamonds, and their common treatments
- International policies for disclosing treatments, synthetic gemstones and diamonds and lab-grown diamonds
- Types of gemstone fashioning (cut), and jewelry settings
- Types of precious metals, hallmarking and calculation of gold prices
- Participants will develop essential skills in selecting and purchasing gemstones, diamonds, and jewelry. These skills will enable them to effectively recommend items to customers, leading to improved communication and increased sales
NGI grants participant A Certificate in Jewellery Product Knowledge as a recognition of gemmological training for jewellery retails in Singapore.

What You Will Learn
- The definition and physical and optical properties of major gemstones and diamonds in the market
- The common enhancement /treatments of gemstones and diamonds and synthetic (lab-grown) counterparts
- An introduction to various precious metals, hallmarking and metal, types of jewellery settings, and gemstone fashioning(cut)
- Methods for estimating the weight of mounted gemstones
- Calculation of gold prices
- Understanding the contents of gemstone testing reports and diamond grading reports
- Procedures for accepting repairs and cleaning, including the use of basic instruments used in the trade

- Total of 15 course hours.
- 2.5 hours per session, 2 sessions per week.

Prerequisites
- Ideally, applicants should have completed O-level or higher education or possess at least 3 years of relevant work experience in the jewelry industry.
