About This Course
This intensive jadeite (Fei Cui ) course provides an excellent introduction to
- Jadeite (Fei Cui), nephrite and jadeite simulants, eg. quartzite, chrysoprase and albite
- Identification of
- Type A, natural jadeite (Fei Cui)
- Type B, chemically treated and resin impregnated
- Type C, jadeite treated with dye
- Type B+C, chemically treated, resin impregnated and dyed
- Other treatments/color enhancements, such as surface coating, colored powder polishing and color backing
- Distinguish jadeite from its simulants
- Understanding jadeite (Fei Cui) is composed solely or principally of any of the combination of (a) jadeite; (b) omphacite; (c) kosmochlor
- Application of newfound expertise to improve one’s business acumen when handling jadeite and jewelry
NGI grants participant a Certificate in Jadeite (Fei Cui) Identification as a recognition of their proficiency in Jadeite identification.

What You Will Learn
- The history and properties of jadeite and nephrite etc.
- The classification of jadeite into commercial grades based on color, translucency & texture; understanding natural, type of treatments and synthetic jadeite
- The functions of various gemological instruments including the microscope, spectroscope, refractometer. Each participant is equipped with the set of tools and instruments
- Interpretation of the results obtained from these gemological instruments to distinguish natural jadeite, Type A, from treated jadeite (Type B, Type B+C, composite, aged etc) and the common jadeite simulants, such as quartzite, chrysoprase, and albite
- When to send sample to gem lab, such as NGI, for further testing to confirm natural jadeite from diverse types of treated jadeites

- 2.5 hours per session, 2 sessions per week.
